Global Mission Support
Hurricane Katrina Aid
Western NC Conference of the
United Methodist Church
Katrina Funding:
Send Conference funds through: WNCC Treasurer, P.O.
Box 18005, Charlotte, NC 28218. Memo should be "Disaster Response" or
"Hurricanes 2005."
If a church wants to send funds to UMCOR, use
“Hurricanes 2005 Global # 982523. UMCOR funds may also be sent through
our treasurer, or a church/individual may go on-line to
www.methodistrelief.org. We
will be able to get funds sent to the WNCC UMC Disaster Response to the
different conferences for earlier response. UMCOR will be focusing more
on the recovery work.

Bulk items of flood bucket supplies will be
accepted, but not partial flood buckets. Hygiene kits will also need to
be replenished. Since last September we have sent almost 3,000 flood
buckets to LA and earlier this month, 2,000 hygiene kits.
We are not
collecting food, water, clothing ... from this area for the disaster.
UMCOR, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and other organizations closer
to the disaster are doing this.
Given the scope of the
Katrina disaster, it is rapidly becoming clear that teams for recovery
will be needed for years. After the major flooding from hurricanes in
South Georgia in the early 90's, teams were needed for three years. The
effort responding to last year's Florida hurricanes will continue for
many more months. Clean-up, and rebuilding teams will be under the
leadership and direction of the individual conferences.
